David Ramey is known as Professor Chardonnay. The man has nearly 40 vintages under his belt and is credited with helping to redefine California Chardonnay by bringing old-world techniques (native yeast, malolactic, barrel fermentation) back to Sonoma. He says that he models really good Meursault or Puligny-Montrachet in a warmer vintage but that the wines are pure California. He's known for his single-vineyard wines that are powerful yet restrained, full of flavour, texture, and freshness.
NAPA CABS // $800 per case of 6
2 bottles Heitz 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa
2 bottles Phelps 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa
2 bottles Barnett 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon, Spring Mountain
Heitz stands out in the valley for its old-school style that is akin to Bordeaux, with more of a medium bodied frame, fresh acidity, and aromatic herbal character. While new-wave producers started appealing to the growing thirst for full-throttle Napa Cabs, Heitz stayed the course with their elegant, age-worthy wines. Their Napa Cab is the real deal — even at north of $100, it’s known as one of Napa’s best values.
Phelps is another one of the historic Napa wineries founded in the early seventies. In contrast to Heitz, Phelps represents the more typical style that you’d except from the valley floor. The Napa Cabernet is by no means overblown or flashy but has the ripeness and velvety weight on the palate that so many Napa lovers seek. The 2017 is full of depth and complexity with rich dark fruit, tobacco, menthol, and spice.
Barnett is off the beaten path. It’s a boutique winery (less than 8000 cases a year) with 15 hectares of vines planted on steep slopes at the top of Spring Mountain. Hal and Fiona Barnett (she’s from Vancouver) bought the property in the early eighties with the intention of making a small amount of premium handcrafted wines, and that’s what they’ve done. Winemaker David Tate (also Canadian) was formerly assistant winemaker at Ridge winery. Barnett’s Spring Mountain Cab is a big wine with dark fruit and tannic structure in equal measure, with a healthy dose of new French oak.
PARTY ON THE DOCK // $219.99 per case of 6
[bubbles + white + rose]
2 bottles Zinck NV Crémant d’Alsace / Alsace, France [org]
2 bottles Dominique Cornin 2017 Mâcon-Chaintré / Burgundy, France [bio]
2 bottles De Martino Gallardia Rosé (100% Cinsault) / Itata, Chile [bio]
These are definitely a cut above your average gluggable summer whites. All three are savoury, crisp, and super refined, providing ultimate thirst-quenching enjoyment. The Crémant could easily pass for Champagne (it's made in the same way), the Mâcon-Chaintré is an unoaked Chardonnay from a top Burgundy producer (NEW!) and the Rosé is bone dry, made from old biodynamic vines in Chile's far south.
ELEGANT ITALIAN REDS // $219.99 per case of 6
2 bottles Paolo Scavino 2018 Langhe Nebbiolo / Piedmont, Italy
2 bottles Il Poggione 2018 Rosso di Montalcino / Tuscany, Italy
2 bottles Rivera 2013 Cappellaccio (Aglianico) / Puglia, Italy
You're likely not jetsetting to Italy any time soon, so use this case to take a virtual tour from North to South. The Langhe Nebbiolo (Barolo-light) from Scavino is a beautiful expression of the grape balancing fruit, structure, and delicate aromatics. The Rosso di Montalcino is 100% Sangiovese from one of the original three producers in Brunello. The Cappellaccio is made from Aglianico, the king of red grapes in southern Italy. The 2013 vintage was included in Wine Spectator's top 100 wines of 2019. “Along with Nebbiolo and Sangiovese, [Aglianico] is generally believed to be one of Italy’s three best wine grapes, but in my opinion it is far more…” — Ian d'Agata
CAMPBELL KIND WINE MIXED PACK // $279.99 per case of 12

2019 Sauvignon Blanc / Marlborough, New Zealand A classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc at it very best. Highly aromatic, it dances across the palate with ripe fruit flavours and the flavours linger like the light of a Canadian sunset in July. Perfect for the balcony, the deck or the dock of the bay. It is made from old vines in the heart of the region on stony soils crafted by one of New Zealand's most legendary winemakers, Steve Smith, a Master of Wine, a university Chancellor, and a good friend of Steven Campbell’s.
2017 Rosso Veronese / Veneto, Italy Since 1864 the Speri family has been crafting wines in Valpolicella Classico. They were the first winery in Valpolicella to be certified organic. This wine is from young vines and shows the vitality of the youthfulness. Fresh and fruity, it is a lighter style of red wine perfect for a summer day.
2014 Shiraz / Clare Valley, Australia This six-year-old Shiraz is classic, made in Andrew Mitchell’s elegant style. He farms his grapes organically, hand picks them in small containers, and only French oak barrels will do for his juice. The result is a smooth balanced wine with spicy aromas, lush fruit flavours and a dry satisfying finish.
2017 Cabernet Sauvignon / California Ironstone has been Lifford’s most popular California wine for years. This Cabernet shows all the reasons why. Bold plummy rich flavours show the California sun and a kiss of oak will enhance your enjoyment.
