THANKSGIVING WINE Part 2
Whether you’re still having a big Thanksgiving gathering with all the family in your bubble, or even if celebrations are a little scaled back this year, here’s some great ideas for wine so you can avoid the LCBO and have some great bottles delivered right to your door.
If you’ve missed any of the recent emails, Capital Wine has partnered with LOLLO in the Byward Market to create the Byward Wine Market. It’s a whole bricks and mortar wine shop full of 160+ different wines available to purchase by the bottle or to create your own custom mixed cases. You can come into the shop to browse or you can order online for curb-side pick up or delivery within Ottawa. We’re working on getting all our individual bottles online very soon, but at the moment we have all our mixed cases available online. Last week, I introduced our DRINK GOOD WINE For Thanksgiving mixed packs: the Classic Pairings and Adventurous Pairings. These mixed cases are super convenient, as they can be delivered same day. They’re coming from the market shop, not the warehouse in Toronto, so if you’re running low on the weekend you can order up another case! Click the links below for those details:

Beyond mixed cases, here are a couple more thoughts for some great wines that will suit the holidays, and beyond:
RONCO BELVEDERE, PROSECCO NV
Ronco Belvedere Lambrusco + Prosecco.
I learned years ago that you should always have a cold bottle of bubbles in the fridge. You never know when you’re going to need to crack it on short notice. If you’re a baller, then this might be Champagne. But if you’re ordinary folk like me, a nice Crement D’Alsace, Cava, or Prosecco better fits the bill. It can be mixed into Sunday morning mimosas if your Saturday night got a bit too real, it can be popped open after dinner if that date night went well, or it can be a quick grab from the fridge when heading out to a last minute dinner party. AND it’s also a fantastic pairing with turkey dinner and toasting at Thanksgiving. The best part is at $18.99 it can easily be your house bubbly, and it looks as sharp as it tastes. Extra Dry in style, there’s just a touch of sweetness to round out the palate with beautiful texture and ample fruit and nice delicate bubbles. Ronco Belvedere is a new label we just started working with this year. We had brought them in exclusively for Eataly in Toronto but they are so popular we’ve opened it up to anyone who’s interested in these great new wines. And great price at $18.99 x12
RONCO BELVEDERE, LAMBRUSCO NV
Lambrusco has been making quite a comeback in the last couple years. An epic wine with deep historic and traditional roots in the Emilia and Romagna regions of Italy, it took a sharp turn towards sweeter, high volume, cheap quality jug wine from the 70’s through 80’s and never really recovered through the 90’s until some pioneering producers began boutique operations that re-ignited the beleaguered wine’s reputation. Now this unique sparkling red is beginning to get the respect it deserves. Lambrusco is the grape, and there are several regional clones of Lambrusco but they all produce approximately the same style of wine: bright, fresh, juicy, and sometimes with earthy or meaty edges to them. And sometimes they’re sweeter sparkling red wines. If you’ve never had a sparkling red before, they’re delicious. And as far as I know Lambrusco is pretty much the only appellation wine in the world to be entirely sparkling red. The Aussies make some sparkling Shiraz, but Lambrusco is the most famous and historic. Expect nice raspberry, strawberry, cranberry fruit with some minerality and nice bubbly mouse with some foresty notes of twigs and bark. A versatile and refreshingly drinkable wine. Bring this to Thanksgiving dinner for a nice curve ball that everyone will be talking about! $17.99 x12
